My style would be ...

I’m not the manager who makes sure everyone always feels comfortable. I’m the manager who makes sure people know where they stand. That difference matters. For me, leadership means having the courage to uphold high standards while continuing to see the person behind the employee. It means recognizing what is going well, but also addressing what is not good enough. It means not postponing difficult conversations simply because they are uncomfortable. Because sometimes, clarity is a form of respect.

I don’t believe in taking responsibility away from someone in order to help them. I believe in standing alongside them, listening, providing direction, and then leaving the responsibility where it belongs.

Employees are allowed to make mistakes. In fact, making mistakes is part of growth. But mistakes should lead to insight, learning, and different behavior.

And when performance or behavior consistently falls short, you have to step in as a manager. Not to punish someone, but because looking the other way ultimately helps no one. Not the employee, not the team, and not the organization.

For me, compassion doesn’t mean being soft.

Compassion means taking someone seriously enough to be honest with them.

You can challenge someone without belittling them.

You can set boundaries without becoming distant.

You can set high expectations without being inhumane.

And you can demonstrate strong leadership without abandoning your people.

I’m not here to make things easy for people.

I’m here to create the conditions in which people can bring out the best in themselves.

Sometimes that requires trust. Sometimes patience. And sometimes a difficult conversation that both of you know needs to happen.

My belief is simple:

Good leaders don’t always need to be liked. They need to be reliable, clear, fair, and courageous.

Because ultimately, the question isn’t whether you are popular as a manager.

The question is: Do your people trust you to have their backs—and to hold them accountable when necessary?
